A place where
watches are heard

Wira has been attending to timepieces in George Town since 2009. Our approach has remained unchanged — assess carefully, communicate clearly, and work at the pace the piece requires.

About Wira

Wira opened on Lebuh Pantai in 2009, occupying a narrow shopfront that had previously served as a stationery store. The founder, Encik Razif Hashim, had spent several years learning movement servicing in Kuala Lumpur before returning to Penang — a city he felt was underserved when it came to considered watch care.

The workshop takes its name from the Malay word for hero — not in any grand sense, but as a nod to the small act of bringing a worn or stopped watch back to reliable use. Many of the pieces that arrive here are not especially valuable by market standards; some are. What they share is that someone cares about them enough to bring them in.

Over the years, the range of services has grown to include mechanical movement overhauls, strap and bracelet work, and routine quartz servicing. The workshop does not take on cosmetic restoration — polishing or case refinishing — as we think those decisions belong to the owner, and we prefer to focus on the mechanical side of things.

Wira operates quietly. We do not advertise widely and rely on word of mouth from clients in George Town and across Penang. Most enquiries come by telephone or through this site, and we ask clients to get in touch before visiting so we can give each piece proper attention when it arrives.

How We Work

Assessment Before Work

Every watch is examined and the findings discussed with the client before any service work begins. We do not proceed with additional steps without prior agreement.

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Mechanical movement components are cleaned ultrasonically before reassembly — a method that removes old lubricant residue and debris from pivot holes and jewels without mechanical stress.

Calibre-Appropriate Lubricants

Different movement types require specific lubricants at specific points. We maintain a range of watchmaking oils and greases suited to the calibres we service regularly.

Written Service Records

Mechanical overhaul clients receive a written record of the work performed, parts replaced, and any observations noted during the service — useful for future reference.

Timing Verification

Serviced mechanical movements are regulated and checked for timing accuracy across positions before the watch is returned. Quartz calibres receive a basic timing check as part of the battery service.

Careful Handling and Return

Completed watches are cleaned externally and returned in protective packaging. Clients are contacted as soon as the work is finished — we do not hold pieces longer than necessary.

Watch Repair in George Town, Penang

George Town has a long history of craftspeople working in small shophouses along its heritage streets. Wira is one of the few remaining workshops in the city that focuses specifically on watch servicing and mechanical movement care — a trade that calls for patience and a degree of technical knowledge that takes years to develop.

The workshop on Lebuh Pantai receives pieces ranging from everyday quartz watches in need of a battery and gasket change, to older mechanical calibres that have not been serviced in many years. Some clients come in from other parts of Penang; others are passing through George Town and bring a watch they have been meaning to attend to. The process is the same in either case — the piece is looked at, the findings discussed, and the work agreed before anything proceeds.

Wira does not offer polishing, dial restoration, or case work. What we do, we try to do thoroughly. For clients in Penang looking for a workshop that treats each watch as a piece worth attending to, we are glad to hear from you.
